"You only regret the sewing classes you didn't do ;)"
You are guaranteed to experience this wonderful feeling of holding something you have made yourself and being able to proudly say "I made it myself" in all my sewing classes.

My passion for fashion was instilled in me by my grandparents. When I was a child, they gave me their old DDR Veritas sewing machine and I was instantly fascinated by the beauty of sewing things myself. The name of my sewing school "URBAN ERNA" is an homage to the names of my grandparents, without whom I might have never discovered the most beautiful hobby in the world and turned it into a profession.

As a freelance university lecturer and sewing class teacher, it is particularly important to me to share my knowledge with you and to create an increased awareness of how much value and time is behind every seam of our garments. In addition to the basics of sewing, repairing and upcycling textiles, I will also provide you with exciting insights behind the scenes of the fashion industry based on plenty of years of international work experience.

Due to my job, I experience the industrial development process of clothing products every day. It is as complex as the social and ecological challenges associated with the mass production of clothing. These days fashion is available 24/7. Trends are spreading around the world in real time via social media and clothes have become an increasingly affordable consumer good. For me, professionally and personally, it is a constant juggling act between fashion affinity, environmental awareness, profitability and my motivation of striving to be part of the solution to the problems of this industry.

In Berlin only, for example, more than 10! tons of no longer needed clothes are gathered every week via the "Berliner Stadmission". Some of it is sold to second-hand lovers in the textile harbor for a good cause, which at the same time is also my source of supply for the unique fabrics that I mainly use in my sewing classes.
With the founding of URBAN ERNA, I am fulfilling my dream of sharing my passion and knowledge about textiles with others and creating a place where people can come together learning new skills and channel their creativity.
